From Moment to Moment

26 Jun

Faith. I have often spoken against the notion of Faith as a religious concept. It is a disabling thing to pin such a powerful ideal up into a category. The connotation is there, of course, because of how the word is used; however, faith is more like courage. The only difference is that usually when we use the word courage we are speaking about a belief in ourselves to overcome opposition. Faith suggests that something through us, something that we are believing external from us is working for our benefit. The external force can be love or hope or an individual. Faith puts into play the notion that maybe the world does not hate us. Maybe everything external from our being is not our enemy. Faith is a powerful concept.

We have also come to think of Faith as something we obtain once and carry it forever. But I submit to you that faith is not a commodity to be bought and coveted. It is something that requires attention and conscious will to maintain. Faith never means that we won’t have doubts; it just means we will overcome them…from moment to moment.

Violet Ambitions shall endure all doubts.

Our world has become full of rules and restrictions because the powers that be surmise that an individual is incapable of knowing what is best for themselves. We are so comforted by the thought of not being responsible for our own destinies that we settle into the box that has been created and ignore the fact that it is a prison.

Every time someone has said you can’t, you won’t, you shouldn’t, or you don’t know how, they are creating a prison in which you will be held captive and, therefore, never meet your destiny. Destiny is not in a box; it’s somewhere out there in the big scary world. Go find it.

When you know who you are and you know the strength you possess, you are free to follow your destiny. There is so much uncertainty and doubt about that fact. But don’t mistake your fear with practicality; it’s not. The truth is like all creatures held in captivity, we fear our freedom. We no longer recognize the vastness of hope. We fear the limitlessness of our potential. But, I submit to you that your fear cannot change your destiny. Nor is it big enough to block your path if you decide to chase your dreams. Accept your limitlessness.

If fear should follow you on that journey, let it. I guarantee it will tire you before you do and you will arrive at destiny with nothing but that which endures: the faith, hope, and love inside you.

Violet Ambitions are limitless.

All Things New

29 May

There are a dozen phrases and sayings that express the constant flux in our world. Things are always changing. Somehow we, as a people, have come to place emphasis on notions of stability, security, and consistency. In truth those things don’t actually exist. The world is unstable, uncertain, ever-changing, and completely inconsistent. It is, therefore, unnatural for any person to reflect those qualities. People who attempt to embody such qualities usually find themselves in a rigid, burdensome existence where they resent those who are able to embrace the magic of change.

We must allow the world and especially the people in it to be whatever they are and need to be at any given time. It is an offensive gesture to demand anything else. When we do we assume that we have the knowledge and understanding to know what they should be instead. Such a condescension assumes an authority of the natural forces of the world; that is egregious.

We must come to the world and the people in it in a spirit of empathy, curiosity, and love. We must first understand why a person is what they are (their origins), respect them for who and what they are, and accept them just as they are. This validation unlocks the door for love, intimacy, and influence. It is from this vantage point that any leverage for inspiring change (should change be needed) in an individual.

There is no right or wrong evolution, there is no good or bad growth. There is just change. Anyone who has ever endeavored to spend a lifetime with someone knows that people change. Sometimes we like it and sometimes we don’t. But it is a beautiful thing to commit to not abandoning someone as they evolve.

The opportunity to witness another person becoming is a gift that deserves reverence, not judgment and ruthless critique (theres plenty of that in the world to go around). It is why we are connected to each other and why we come into contact with each other. It is scary, nerve wrecking, and exciting to watch the world and people in it evolve. When we embrace change in people and the world, we realize that it is not a neurotic pathology that needs to be fixed. It is the world seeking to be better and evolve. It is a person seeking to actualize an heal their wounds. It is the universe seeking to reconcile it’s inhabitants unto itself.

Everything old becomes new again.

Violet Ambitions are nested in evolution and rebirth.

Ravaged by Truth

15 May

Philosophers have often commented about the inevitability of truth. It always comes to the light or it will set you free. What they have not always said is that it will turn your world inside out. We have been trained to fake it, to lie, to deceive, but if and when the truth comes for you (as they say it inevitably will), succumb to it. Let it ravage you.

However uncomfortable, embarrassing, or painful, let it take you. We should always give ourselves over to the truth when it comes. Most often it will be laced with a lie that will incite us to protest, but we shouldn’t protest. Anywhere there is truth, let it be. We should it have its way with us, because in that part that is truth we will be made free.

The freedom that comes with truth is the liberation from the lies. We will find a way to stand bare before the world and say “this is who I am. It is not all pretty or all perfect but I commit to it.” When we embrace the truth we disarm those who would oppose us, we liberate ourselves to focus on that which truly matters…love and truth.

Violet Ambitions seek truth.

Perception In Flux

9 May

People are, by our very nature, covetous creatures. The problem with coveting is not the desire or the possession. there is nothing wrong with wanting things and not everything that we desire is bad or wrong. It is our reason for doing so that causes trouble.

It is good to seek knowledge and understanding. We all have questions; however, all too often we cling to the truths we find. We give our knowledge a weight it does not deserve. We hinge our self-esteem, our purpose, our very reason for being on what we know. And because we have placed so much of our identity and life on a few truths we have discovered, we cannot afford to have that changed or erased. We will refuse to consider that are other truths, other perspectives, other possibilities. The truth, then, becomes a prison in which we hold ourselves captive.

We must recognize that in the vastness of the universe, whatever fraction of knowledge we possess is both infantile and incomplete. If the truth is what we seek, it must begin with humility and an acceptance of our limitations. We must learn not to hold onto what we know today, realizing that what we know tomorrow may change everything. We must understand that throughout or lives everything we learn we will have to learn again.

Violet Ambitions are constantly in flux.

The Miracle Position

1 Feb

Miracles do happen. They happen everyday. We live in a world of miracles: planes, spaceships, televisions, cell phones, electricity. All these things at some point were beyond belief. Now they are a part of our daily reality. That’s how miracles work. When a miracle happens it is so thoroughly consuming that it changes a world, indefinitely.

We live in a society that is about as pleasant as a jaded lover. Somewhere along the line we fell out of love with the world. We decided that it just didn’t live up to our expectations and that was its fault and not ours. So, now, we are skeptical. We are bitter. We are faithless. And miracles are made of faith.

It is surprising how many people would say that they do not believe in miracles when all they would need to do is look at the world around them and see it for what it is: a miracle. As people, we are some of the most ungrateful and irreverent creatures on the planet. And what’s worse is we have the audacity to be sarcastic and cynical. We are so out of touch with the truth that we cannot understand and see that there are, at least, as many possibilities in the world as there are limitations.
All it takes is an open face (I have issues with open minds lol). All we have to do is be willing to see and focus on that which is positive and hopeful, despite the opposition.

When we get in the miracle position we begin to see the world from an angle that makes anything possible. The glass becomes half full instead of half empty, love seems possible, hope abounds, and faith endures. What does it cost one to believe? he risk of disappointment? Well that, too, would be a matter of perspective. But we’ve been disappointed before and somehow survived. So why not take the chance? There’s infinitely more to be gained than there is to lose.

Violet Ambitions are everyday miracles.

What’s So Bad About Polly?

1 Oct

Pollyana was a little girl who refused to be negative. In any given situation she would look for the silver lining. In every individual she would look past the flaws for the good.

When we recognize the truth about ourselves, the perfect nature of our imperfections, it changes the way we see the world and the people around us. They call this being “Pollyana,” but it is in fact just being truthful.

It is a tragedy when an individual defines their existence by misery and suffering. When a person does this they turn their backs on the sun to stare into the night. It is much harder to see the truth in the dark. Everyone they meet will seem menacing and threatening. Every situation will seem like a conspiracy to destroy them. They become the sort of people that drain those around them. They constantly crave positive reinforcement and attack or shun anyone refuses to acquiesce to their demands for validation or challenges them to turn to the light. They become the kind of people who are always defensive and can only see the negative in people and situations.

While it is true that the no one is perfect and that the world holds at least as much bad as it does good, I submit to you that becoming attached to negativity is no way to live. There is nothing wrong with being sad, angry, or disappointed; just don’t live there. Embrace the equilibrium of life. Know that there is more to the world than tragedy and more to people than their flaws.

Violet Ambitions need the light of the sun to thrive.

Remain in Truth

21 Sep

The answer to the question of who we are and we are becoming is not a secret. It’s all around us. Our problem is we can’t see the forest for the trees.

We, as a people, define ourselves according to our suffering. We often try to out suffer or out victim each other. Maybe we feel we are not being boastful when we do so or maybe we have experienced so much hurt that hurt is all we know. Either way we become problem focused and not solution focused. So most of the time the answers are right in front if us; we just refused to see it.

The change that occurs when we stand face to face with our own truth may seem fleeting. Sometimes it seems hard to hold onto. This is because we allow ourselves to drift from the source if the answer. We’d rather gaze into the darkness than turn to the light.

As we are remaking ourselves and the world around us, the mirror will serve as our anchor. We have to return to the mirror constantly and stand before our reflection. It will remind us of who we are and who we are becoming. It will never let us forget the creating power inside us; we are dreamers.

Violet Ambitions thrive in truth.

Dream Killers

18 Sep

Life comes at us fast and we are constantly adapting to circumstances. So every now and then we need the reality check that comes from a good, hard look in a mirror.

The people around us often serve as mirrors for us. These external mirrors do not always reflect the truth. When it comes to others reflections of us, the image reflected can be as truthful as that of a funhouse mirror: twisting and warping what is seen. Sometimes people project onto us characteristics that they actually posses or a blurry image of who they perceive us to be. People do this unintentionally as well as intentionally, but the threat is the same: the loss of dreams. These are the dream killers who come like lions in the night to tear our dreams apart.

Just because someone believes something about, that does not make it true. People are human and fallible. It is dangerous to accept everything everyone says or believes. We have to reach inside ourselves and feel it for ourselves to determine its worth.

Only through standing face to face with ourselves are we familiar with our own truth (good and bad) and are able to discern whether what’s being reflected to us by others matches what we have seen for ourselves.

We, dreamers, endure a long, difficult journey to bring our dreams to life. We endure misunderstanding, disbelief, adversity, and the pain of introspection. We face ourselves daily to ensure that we are constantly evolving and perfecting our perceptions which in turn create and perfect the world around us. We must beware of dream killers. No one is entitled to be a part of our lives. It is an honor we bestow. One that when done right is a joy for both people involved. What better than for two people to take up the journey together: trusting, respecting, and loving one another bearing witness to each others evolution. But there are others wish to bear witness to our destruction. That is a reality that we must be prepared to deal with. We will know the difference because we have already net ourselves in the glass and accepted our reflection in its perfect imperfection. There is a difference between being humbled and being humiliated.

Violet Ambitions reject all fallacies.

Dream Makers

17 Sep

“Kindred Spirits” by Martha Brouwer

We choose our associations for many reasons: we enjoy someone’s company, we like them, we love them, we’re related to them. Sometimes we don’t really know why we choose the people we choose to be around us. But whether we know it or not these relationships have a huge affect on us.

The people with whom we surround ourselves serve as mirrors for us; they can reflect back to us who we really are. Often we are not completely aware of who we are or we are becoming. We can be just as blind to our greatness as we can be to our flaws.

Life seems to move so fast and we push so hard. We put our noses to the grind, ignore the pain and exhaustion and try to keep pushing forward. One day we look up and we’re not quite sure where we are or how we got there. We may find that the journey has taken us in some unexpected direction or we don’t recognize where we are or if we’re on the right path anymore. In times like that we need a little help.

These are the Dream Makers. They come into our lives and bear witness to all that is good and perfect in us. They show us, even if we can’t see it, that our efforts to be better and to manifest our dreams is paying off or that they will pay off. They make our dreams real to us when we are unsure. Who doesn’t need encouragement from time to time?

We are not alone in our Violet Ambitions
